Suffering in life is inevitable

In our most important relationships, in the pain of dealing with loss or trauma, or different kinds of emotional stress. It can weigh us down and keep us from the life we long to live. Emotional and relational health isn’t inevitable. It comes through intentional growth and making helpful decisions.

I believe that everyone is capable of living a good life. We can’t choose what happens to us, but we can learn better responses to cope, heal, and thrive in marriage, family, work, and our personal lives.

Individuals

Everyone experiences a range of difficult emotions including excessive fear and anxiety, depression, loneliness, shame and more. These emotions or a traumatic experience can keep you from living in a meaningful way with healthy relationships. In one-on-one sessions, I help you expand your self-awareness and understanding. We’ll develop helpful strategies to allow you to grow and even thrive in your wellbeing and your ability to manage it. I use a variety of therapeutic techniques including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Existential Psychotherapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Couples

Every couple goes through different seasons in their relationship. Disconnection, infidelity, or a fear of rejection can lead to a loss of intimacy and increased tension and conflict. Through my process, it is possible to restore connection giving you hope for a better future with a satisfying, meaningful relationship. I draw from a variety of counseling strategies including the Gottman Method to improve communication, intimacy, respect, and affection.

What if my partner won’t come?

I work with individuals and partners in all types of relationships. An individual session can be quite helpful to explore your own ideas and feelings. This can move the process along as one partner tries out new behaviours and gets fresh ideas on how to handle difficult situations. Sometimes a partner will want to join in counselling. Even if your partner won’t attend therapy it can still be a useful experience to have individual counselling for relationship challenges.
